GU research making an impact

Two new videos highlight GU research impact on British military operations in Afghanistan and islamic education in Nigeria.

Streamlining military operations

Global Uncertainties Fellow Professor Theo Farrell conducted a performance review of the British-led Provincial Reconstruction Team in Helmand, Afghanistan. As a consequence of the review, programme management has been strengthened and support to district stabilisation teams improved.

Secular education in a traditional setting

Global Uncertainties Fellow Dr Masooda Bano built on her research of Islamic madrasa education to design two interventions for the Islamic and Quranic school component in Nigeria, as part of a UKAid support programme. Her innovative approach combined analysis with dialogue and growing mutual trust, so suspicions of 'westernised' secular education are being reconsidered.

Global Uncertainties School's Network

The Global Uncertainties School's Network has been set up by the Institute of Ideas' Debating Matters Competition and is supported by the Global Uncertainties programme. It ran a series of six debating events  around some of the core research areas of the Global Uncertainties programme.

To help students get to grips with some of the ideas, political and social trends, and events that inform and shape these debates, a collection of resources on the themes is available on the website.
